This is the second Tuesday of the month, which means it’s Patch Tuesday again. Therefore, today Microsoft will launch the November 2021 monthly security update (also known as "version B") on Windows 10 for the latest versions 2004, 20H2, and 21H1. The new update is being distributed under KB5007186, which will increase the build to 19041.1348, 19042.1348, and 19043.1348.

The highlights of this conference are:

Update the security of the Windows operating system.

Improvements or changes brought about by the new update:

Solved the problem of 0 (zero) width Pen to render one pixel regardless of transformation.

Usually, Redmond also lists known issues in the update, which is always convenient. The following are the known issues of KB5007186:

Devices that create Windows installations from custom offline media or custom ISO images may remove Microsoft Edge Legacy through this update, but they will not be automatically replaced by the new Microsoft Edge. Only when you create a custom offline media or ISO image by integrating this update into the image without first installing the Standalone Servicing Stack Update (SSU) released on or after March 29, 2021 This problem.

Note that devices that connect directly to Windows Update to receive updates are not affected. This includes devices that use Windows Update for Business. Any device connected to Windows Update should always receive the latest version of SSU and the latest cumulative update (LCU) without any additional steps.

To avoid this problem, please be sure to integrate the SSU released on or after March 29, 2021 into the custom offline media or ISO image before integrating the LCU. To do this with the combined SSU and LCU packages now used for Windows 10 version 20H2 and Windows 10 version 2004, you need to extract the SSU from the combined package. Use the following steps to extract using SSU:

Extract the SSU from the previously extracted cab through this command line: expand Windows10.0-KB5000842-x64.cab /f:*

Then you will have an SSU cab, named SSU-19041.903-x64.cab in this example. First slide this file into your offline image, and then slide into the LCU.

If you have already encountered this issue while installing the operating system using the affected custom media, you can alleviate the issue by directly installing the new Microsoft Edge. If you need to widely deploy the new Microsoft Edge for enterprises, see Download and deploy Microsoft Edge for enterprises.

This issue has been resolved using Known Issue Rollback (KIR). Please note that it can take up to 24 hours for the solution to be automatically propagated to unmanaged personal devices and unmanaged corporate devices. Restarting your Windows device may help to apply the solution to your device faster. For enterprise managed devices that have installed the affected update and encounter this problem, you can solve it by installing and configuring the special group policy linked below.

Note that the device needs to be restarted after configuring the special group policy. If you need help, see How to use Group Policy to deploy a known issue rollback. For general information about using Group Policy, see Overview of Group Policy.

Group Policy installation file (in msi):

Important Make sure you are using the correct group policy for your version of Windows.

After installing this update, the Windows print client may encounter the following error when connecting to a remote printer shared on the Windows print server:

Note that the printer connection problem described in this question is specific to the print server and is not common in devices designed for home use. The printing environment affected by this issue is more common in businesses and organizations.

For the resolution and the latest status of this issue, please refer to the Windows version health status:

We are currently investigating and will provide an update in an upcoming version.

Some older Windows 10 versions also received updates today, as listed below:

Microsoft also added that due to the "minimal operations during the holidays and the upcoming Western New Year", there will not be any C version in December. However, the B version or Patch Tuesday security updates will be released on a regular basis.
