We take a look at the strongest cards to use in a Human Tribal Commander deck in MTG.

Tribal decks are a staple of Magic The Gathering's Commander format. These decks are built around a specific creature type, and generally, only play cards that support that creature type.

One of the most popular tribal decks in Commander is Humans. There has been no shortage of Human creatures in Magic the Gathering, appearing in practically every set in the game. It even had its own preconstructed deck in the Midnight Hunt Commander deck Coven Counters, giving powerful commanders for the archetype. Human decks tend to want to flood the battlefield with creatures and swing out for massive amounts of damage.

In Commander, artifacts and enchantments are a large part of the format. Be it in the form of mana rocks, Stax pieces, or overall powerful effects, removal for these kinds of cards is very important for any deck to be running.

Luckily for Humans, they have a built-in card that can destroy multiple artifacts and enchantments over the game. So long as you can tap Devout Chaplain and two other Humans, you can exile an artifact or enchantment. Exiling gets around indestructible, making Devout Chaplain's removal fantastic. It can be done at instant speed as well, meaning you'd be able to use its effect before your turn to get to use it twice.

Laid To Rest is a powerful enchantment that ensures you'll always be able to come back from a board wipe. Since it triggers whenever a Human dies, not one or more, Laid To Rest draws a card for each Human that died. The lifegain effect doesn't come up often, but since Humans spread out so many +1/+1 counters, it's a nice added bonus.

It doesn't matter how a Human dies for Laid To Rest. If you use a Human to block a big creature, not only do you prevent damage, but you will draw cards to get you closer to your main win conditions.

General's Enforcer is a fantastic Human as you will give your commander, as well as any other legendary Humans you control, indestructible. It can also act as graveyard hate that makes tokens, though it's generally played for its protection effect.

It only costs two mana, allowing General's Enforcer to be played earlier to ensure your more important creatures will stick around. Its exile from graveyard effect is fairly pricey mana-wise, however, can completely shut down combo pieces of certain decks, making it a good idea to keep some mana up for it should you ever need it.

While a solid Orzhov (black/white) commander in its own right, General Kudro Of Drannith is a fantastic card to include in the 99 as well. It gives all other Humans +1/+1 while allowing you to use your creatures for removal so long as you have the mana to do so. It even has some decent graveyard hate attached to it as well.

Human decks are no stranger to making a ton of tokens. This allows you to use General Kudro Of Drannith's effect without having to sacrifice any of your more important Human creatures for it.

Heronblade Elite is a phenomenal mana dork for any Human tribal deck. It grows as more Humans enter the battlefield, which in turn lets you tap for extra mana. Not only can it tap for absurd amounts of mana, but it also has vigilance so it can act as both an attacker and blocker on top of a mana source.

Human decks can flood the battlefield with Humans quite easily, allowing Heronblade Elite to gain a ton of counters. With how many Human Token generators and cheap, powerful Humans there are in the format, Heronblade Elite is a must-run in any Human deck that can play green.

Angel Of Glory's Rise is a phenomenal card in Human tribal decks. It costs a hefty seven mana to cast, but for doing so, you get to return all the Humans from your Graveyard back to the battlefield. If there are any Zombies on the field, it gives the added bonus of exiling those in the process.

Tribal decks are often hurt by board wipes, and can even take you out of the game entirely. However, Angel Of Glory's Rise is a fantastic comeback card for Human decks as it allows you to set your board up how you used to have it.

The best board wipe in decks that spread counters, Damning Verdict is the best board wipe for Human tribal decks. Humans spread counters across their creatures consistently, and oftentimes all your creatures will have at least one +1/+1 counter on them.

This makes Damning Verdict essentially a one-sided board wipe. It will destroy all creatures without counters, and since your Humans will have them they are safe from it. If the opponent has counters on their creatures it is much weaker, but its wide range while keeping your battlefield safe is a worthy tradeoff.

Esper Sentinel is arguably the best one-drop white creature in Commander. Not only is it a powerful creature, but it is a Human as well. Esper Sentinel's power grows as its stats grow, something that Human decks can accomplish quite easily.

Human decks tend to spread counters through all of your creatures, allowing Esper Sentinel to grow to levels where paying to stop its effect proves impossible. In four-player games, Esper Sentinel can draw you a ton of cards quickly, as it's each opponent's first spell during a turn that triggers it, not just their own.

Katilda, Dawnhart Prime, while a fantastic Human commander, is a must-run in any Human deck that can play Selesnya (green/white) colors. While the protection from Werewolves effect will hardly come up, giving all your Humans the ability to tap for mana of its colors will come up constantly.

Since Human decks make so many Humans, there will hardly be a time where you don't have mana available to spend. This can play into one of Human's other gameplans, allowing Katilda, Dawnhart Prime to spread +1/+1 counters across all of your creatures.

Kyler, Sigardian Emissary is one of the best Human support cards printed in recent years. For five mana, Kyler, Sigardian Emissary will constantly grow with +1/+1 counters whenever a Human comes into play, and give its power to the rest of your Humans.

Kyler, Sigardian Emissary gets out of hand incredibly quickly and makes every Human you control a massive threat. If you have ways to protect Kyler, Sigardian Emissary, odds are you will be winning the game when it has a ton of counters on it. You can easily swing at all of your opponents for lethal damage with your many Humans thanks to Kyler.
