The festival brings a long tradition, such as decorating a Christmas tree, gathering with friends and so on.

Your family may be preparing to send holiday cards to friends and loved ones. But some people find it intimidating to deal with holiday cards, risking grammatical errors or other rudeness.

In addition, the U.S. Postal Service and other experts urge shoppers to receive their holiday gifts in the mail as soon as possible.

Daniel Post Senning, author and spokesperson of the Emily Post Institute, told USA Today that no matter how you send holiday greetings, "Never underestimate the value of personal contact to your communication."

Below is the information you need to know before sending your best wishes.

The USPS recommends that the person sending the letter "print the address neatly in capital letters." If you handwritten the address on the holiday card, please use a pen or permanent marker.

According to USPS, you do not need to use commas or periods when writing addresses.

Senning explained that it is also important to use a person's full name when handling envelopes.

"The most important thing is that it finds the right person. This seems to be the obvious suggestion, but usually this is the biggest trick," he said. "You want to use people's full names on the outer envelope, even if it says'Dear Sally' or'Dear Smith Family' on the inside."

You can add your friends and family's addresses online through some holiday card creators. Jim Hilt, President of Shutterfly, told USA Today that you can also personalize your holiday cards while processing holiday cards. .

"When you are writing a card, the font you choose can really help set the tone. I like to keep it simple by addressing the card to an individual's name or household name," he said. "You can be creative, make custom-designed envelopes, get free address printing, and even let Shutterfly mail cards for you."

If you want to use formal titles on holiday cards, "Miss" refers to unmarried women or girls. Mrs. refers to married women. Ladies can be used by all women. Mr. is for men.

In the business world, ladies are usually suitable candidates for women. The plural of two women is Mesdames, and the plural of Mr. is Messrs.

Senning suggested, "The criterion for how you call others is how they want to call them."

"In terms of the way you structure and organize the headline, it's actually more about the recipient's preferences," he said.

For couples composed of a man and a woman, one of the most traditional ways of addressing is through the official title and the man’s first and last name: Mr. and Mrs. John Kelly.

But it's 2021, so experts say you can take a different approach without offending your loved ones.

“For married couples, using the husband’s name is a very traditional form of address. Basically, it becomes the John Smith couple. Addresses to Dr. Jane Smith and Mr. John Smith can be equally formal,” Senning Say.

But he added, “If you don’t know, it’s always good etiquette to ask.”

"You can ask the person you sent it to,'I'm sending something. I want to make sure that my address is correct. How do you like others to call you? It's never an impolite question. It's not too early to reveal a surprise , It’s not like stealing your own limelight to do this," he said.

Hilt told USA Today that there are some details that can make your card more personalized.

"Sometimes adding their nicknames in parentheses is a way to make them smile. Or adding their pets (or even goldfish!) is a good nod to make your card stand out," he said.

According to Senning, you might also want to ask if a person prefers gender-neutral titles such as Mx.

If you want to send a greeting card to celebrate the New Year, you should wish your friends and family "Happy New Year".

If you are discussing New Year’s events, you don’t need to capitalize the name of the holiday. For example, you might share with your loved ones that your spouse will start a new job in the new year.

Another quick tip-this is a seasonal greeting, not a seasonal greeting.

We understand that you may need to review when and where to use apostrophes when dealing with holiday greetings. This is a quick reference:

Do: Merry Christmas from Smith's house. The Smith’s Christmas Eve party is coming soon. This gift comes from the Smith family.

Don't: The Smiths are on vacation.

Do: Merry Christmas from the Jones family. Jones' Christmas Eve party is coming soon.

Don't: The Jones family is on vacation.

Do: Merry Christmas from May. The Christmas Eve party in Metz is coming soon.

Don't: Maies is traveling on vacation.

This is a general rule: names that end with "ch", except those pronounced with a hard k like "monarch"; s; hush; X; and z; need an es to make them plural.
