What is the first thing that comes to mind when someone asks you to name a noun?  Many students across the country may not immediately think of a person, place, or thing. They might struggle to come up with a noun.  As teachers, we need to find activities that capture our students' attention and interest them into learning about nouns and other parts of speech. Teaching Grammar can be a lot of fun with the right resources.

Online noun games are an entertaining way for students to practice using different types of nouns. While these online games can be played with others, you can turn on the "classmates only" feature to control access and keep students safe.

Middle school students might roll their eyes at first when you tell them you are going to play "I spy". However, you can challenge them by asking your students to identify specific types of nouns that they find around the school or learning environment.

Incorporating a proper noun gallery walk into your grammar lessons is a fun way to engage middle school students. Chart paper and color markers are needed for this activity. Your students will actively walk around the room to classify proper nouns. This is an awesome interactive resource.

Digital task cards can be used with middle schoolers for a variety of grammar activities. Teaching grammar concepts can be challenging. Digital task cards help with breaking down the content into smaller activities for students to practice specific skills.

Students will work to improve their knowledge of nouns with this fun noun sorting game.  The students will sort common nouns and proper nouns. You will need to make a list of nouns and cut them into strips resembling fries. How creative!

This free printable noun board game can be used with elementary and middle school level students. Players will take turns rolling the die and classifying the object they land on as a person, place, or thing. This could be used as a center activity or to play in pairs.

The collective noun game is an interactive learning experience in which students' will test their knowledge of collective nouns. These online grammar programs are very effective in making grammar fun for students.

The song about nouns is a great musical resource to teach your students. It will aid in helping them remember what nouns are and how they are used. You can pair this song with a noun writing activity in which students will write their own original sentences using nouns.

This silly sentence activity can be used for all grade levels. Students will throw a ball into the muffin pan to select 4 words. They will arrange the words into a silly sentence making sure to use each noun, adjective, and verb properly.

Another engaging way to create sentences is to make sentence sticks.  Students will pick a stick from each container to select each word. They will put them in order to create a complete sentence. Then, they will be asked to identify the nouns in sentences on their own.

This interactive plural noun quiz is a great way to sharpen students' skills on recognizing plural nouns. This activity can be used with individual students or partner pairs. This is fun because it is interactive and allows students to play a game. I am all about making learning fun!

If your students enjoy gameshows, they will love this game! I would recommend splitting the students into teams and playing as a class. You can make it fun with student selected team names and prizes. This is a really fun team game.

Khan Academy is an excellent resource for many content areas within education. The noun activities can be adapted for Google Classroom or can be played straight from Khan Academy. I love Khan Academy because of the easy-to-understand explanations and interactive content.

Noun explorer is an interactive game that is fun for students of all ages, even middle school! The graphics and sound effects are entertaining to keep your students' attention throughout the game.

For this activity, you will make a copy of one of the books in your classroom. Then, you will ask your students to circle all the nouns they can find as quickly as they can. You can increase the difficulty by adding a timer.
