San Jose, California - On Saturday night, Alex Ovechkin and Connor Hilly scored two goals each to lead the Washington Capitals to a 4-0 victory over the San Jose Sharks.

Ilya Samsonov reversed 22 shots in the second consecutive lockout as the Capitals won for the sixth time in a seven-game winning streak. Samsonov played consecutive games for the first time this season.

"I hope (Samsonov) can play like this for the rest of the year," Ovechkin said.

"I think he played well with Vitek (Vaneček).... It is very important for us that we have two goalkeepers. If we make a mistake, they will stop it."

Earlier in the day, San Jose forward Noah Gregor recruited from the nearby AHL affiliate and led the Sharks to score five goals.

Sheri scored just over two minutes into the game, and Ovechkin scored a powerful goal with more than six minutes left in the first quarter.

Ovickin’s 13th goal was his first since November 12, when the 12-time All-Star player scored his 742th career goal, surpassing Brett Hull, ranked fourth on the historical list.

Sheary added an insurance goal at 15:10 in the third quarter, and Ovechkin had an empty net with more than a minute left.

"I think the second stage was sloppy for us," Capitals coach Petravilot said.

"Fortunately, we ended the second quarter with a score of 2-0, and then I think we played very well in the third quarter. A more detailed, simpler, and more disciplined game."

San Jose lost four of five games and six of eight games.

The Sharks had a chance to return to the game late in the second quarter, but failed to take advantage of Carl Haglin's four-minute double-tipped persistence. San Jose made 0 of 4 shots in a strong game.

"We may not have enough traffic to shoot. We have enough time. They are under a lot of pressure," Shark captain Logan Couture said. "We do have some good-looking ones."

Alding Hill made 19 saves for the Sharks.

Sharks coach Bob Bowner talked about the situation of forward Evand Kane, who was suspended for 21 games for submitting a fake COVID-19 vaccination card. Kane is eligible to return on November 30.

"I wish I had more information. I don't have it. It's totally honest. (But) I know a decision needs to be made," Boughner said.
