Like many physical trading card games, Legends of Runeterra will soon be rotating cards out of its continuously growing card pool. Don’t worry though, you’ll still be able to use your old cards in a new game mode and can presumably expect them to be rotated back into the pool in the future.

According to Riot Games, they’ll be dividing the existing card pool for use in two formats: Eternal, where all cards are legal, and Standard, where only the cards included in the current rotation can be used. They studio says that they’ll be rotating cards in and out of the Standard pool while keeping the number of available cards roughly the same.

“So, why are we talking about doing it for LoR? In many games where new content is added to an otherwise ever-growing content pool, rotation is a tool to keep somewhat of a cap on the size of the pool. When the set of legal cards playable gets too large, then some of them are rotated out,” Riot explained.

Champions will also be rotated in and out of the roster to encourage the use of lesser-used ones like Uldyr. The first batch of Champions who will be rotated out will be Irelia, Twisted Fate, and Vlad. “Rotation provides a new environment for those champions to try new champ pairings, explore combinations of lower-powered cards that improve synergy, and more,” the studio said.

Riot has yet to give a date for when they’ll be paring down the card pool but they’re looking to have it done at some point next year. They’re still open to discussing the matter with the community though and want to hear their thoughts through this survey.
